1.
What is Internet roaming?
HKBN's Internet roaming service provides
a user with the ability to locally access the Internet almost
anywhere in the world. It helps users avoid long-distance
charges associated with accessing the Internet while traveling.
As one of the members of GRIC alliance, our users are able
to dial into the nearest GRIC member POP to gain access to
the Internet so as to avoide long distance charges.
2.
How does the Internet roaming service work?
GRIC, our worldwide Internet roaming
alliance partner, has established a worldwide alliance of
ISPs, who make their points of presence (POPs) available to
all other GRIC members. When HKBN users travel, they simply
locate the nearest POP in the GRIC network, and log in with
their username and password (i.e. username@ctimail.com , username@incnets.com
and password you use); it's that easy.
3.
How do I sign up for the Internet roaming service?
For the sake of customers' security
purpose, customers have to complete our simple Online-Registration
Form at http://www.ctinets.com/ichannel2000/index.html and
a notification letter will be sent to customers by email after
successful registration. A one time handling charge of HK$100
will be collected from the customer's account.
4.
How do I find a local access number when roaming?
Users can access the network through
the use of the client application called GRICdial?. It is
a GUI based dialer that is extremely easy to use. Users can
simply just point - click - and connect to the Internet. GRIC
offers the best user client software in the industry. GRICdial
version 2.1 automatically updates the dialer phonebook each
and every time the user access the Internet. This assures
users that they will always have access to the most current
POP information. In addition to the dialers, GRIC also publishes
current POP numbers in our web based POP finder.
5.
What operating systems does GRICdial support?
Currently, GRICdial supports Windows
95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Mac OS.
6.
Does GRIC support users with Windows CE, Palm Pilot or Psion?
Currently there is no GRICdial client
software for the Windows CE platform or other handheld devices.
GRIC does provide the most current GRICdial phonebook in the
form of a CSV file which can be downloaded and stored on a
handheld device. This CSV file can then be searched for a
local phone number to access a POP in the GRIC Alliance.
7.
How am I billed for roaming?
A detailed bill of all roaming activity
will be listed in customer's regular monthly statement issued
by HKBN.
8.
What if I need technical support?
GRIC ISP members provide technical support
in the country you are traveling in. The local technical support
phone number for the ISP is located in the GRICdial dialer,
and in the web-based POP finder.
